PM-CM Meeting: PM hints lockdown extension, urges CMs to share broad lockdown stategy by May 15


PM Narend Modi held a video confernce with all the Chief Ministers of states and union territories on May 11, 2020 to discuss the way ahead for India in its battle against COVID-19,. This was the fifth meeting of the Prime Minister with all the Chief Ministers since the coronavirus outbreak.

The Prime minister began the discussion by pointing out how India has managed to identify the geographical spread of the pandemic, including the worst affected areas and how officials in a time such as this, rigt up to the district level.
The Prime minister highlighted that this understanding of the spread of coronavorus will help the country in having a focused fight against it and therefore, we can now furter focus our stategy in this battle sgainst coronavirus.

PM’s address to Cms: Key Highlights
  • PM Modi highlighted that India is faced with a two-fold challenge:
  1. To reduce the transmission rate of the disease
  2. To increase public activity gradually, while adhering to all the guidelines
  • The Prime Minister assured that the government will work towards achieving both these objectives.
  • He further emphasised that efforts should be made to stop the spread of the COVID-19 to rural areas.
  • PM Modi stated that the suggestions made by the States for a road mapp on the economy have been given due consideration.
  • He further thanked the Chief Ministers for their proactive role in the mation’s battle against COVID-19 and for their valuable suggestions.

Post Corona World

Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted that we all must understand that the world has fundamentally changed post COVID-19. He stated tht the world will be Pre-Corona, Post-Corona just like in the case of the World Wars. This will require significant changes in how people function.
PM Modi stated that the new way of life would be based on the principle of “Jan Se Lakar Jag Tak”, from an individual to the whole of humanity. He emphasised that we all must plan for the new reality.

PM reaffirms importence of “Do Gaz Ki Doori”

The Prime Minister stated that while we are looking at a gradual withdrawal of the lockdown, we should remember that till we do not find a vaccine or a solution, the biggest weapon to the fight the virus is social distancing.
PM Modi reiterated the significance of ‘Do Gaz Ki Doori’ and added that noght curfew suggestion raised by many CMs would help reaffirm the feeling of caution among people.

PM hints at lockdown extension

During the discussion, the Prime Minister urged all the Chief Minister for specific feedback regarding the lockdown. He urged all the CMs to share a broad strategy by May 15th on how each one of them would want to deal with the lockdown in their respective states.
The Prime Minister want the states to make a blueprint on how to deal with various nuances during and after the gradual easing of the lockdown. He said that an all encompasing approach will be needed to deal with various challenges that will arise before us.
He pointed out that with the onset of Monsoon, thetre will be many other non COVID-19 diseases, for which the government will need to prepare its medical and health syatems. He further stated that policy makers will need to figure out tio embrace new models of teaching and learning in the education sector.
